We only recently announced the official campaign. But, it's been a busy few months preparing. Today, l wanted to take a minute to share with you what we've been up to on the campaign trail.
In April, it was fun to have several volunteers and supporters get together to celebrate our accomplishments last year and talk about 2020. We also held our first volunteer event; packing food to prevent childhood malnutrition.
I was able to join in solidarity with Cabarrus County Teachers and Support Staff on May 1st, when they advocated in Raleigh for their students and our schools. Every Democrat I talk with, every Republican; we all want a strong education system. I have been proud to see our educators take their concerns directly to our state legislators.
Later that month, following the tragedy at UNC-Charlotte, the Young Democrats of Cabarrus and Mecklenburg counties hosted a gun violence prevention discussion. It was a privilege to be invited to listen and talk with an incredibly thoughtful group of young adults who are confronting issues of school safety.
In June we publicly announced the 2020 campaign, and organized another gathering of friends and supporters to celebrate and make it official. The enthusiasm and encouragement has been humbling.
While running a campaign was quite possibly the best training a candidate will receive; you can still learn a tremendous amount from your fellow travelers. The month ended with a weekend of training, where I was able to share notes and best practices with candidates from all across the southeast.
The first quarter went by so fast; and I'm excited to share more with you as we ramp up campaign activities. Your volunteer time now, can make a huge impact in getting our name out into the community and creating positive change.
We're planning service events; helping new voters register for the 2020 election; and canvassing the community to share information about actions they can take on some of our most crucial issues. I hope you'll sign up today to volunteer with me.
See you on the trail soon!
