“Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that.  Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”   Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

As a lifelong resident of NC, I am deeply concerned about the condition of our state. I grew up in a community that believed in taking care of our neighbors and I think we need to return to the basics.

I believe in justice, equity, and inclusiveness as the driving factors of our policies. Our legislature needs to focus on providing job opportunities and living wages for working people to support their families; quality public education for all children; and healthcare that is accessible and affordable for all people.  We need affordable housing and the expansion of Medicaid. We need to take care of our veterans who have given so much for us. And we need districts drawn so that we the people can select our representatives based on their ideas and performance, not their party affiliation.

I ask you to join me.

“We are not called to be the servants of the state, but the conscience of the state! We are called to be the moral guardians of our community!”  Rev. William Barber II
