Gail Young leads Rep. Larry Pittman 4:1 in First Fundraising Deadline of 2020

Young’s campaign ahead in key legislative race with three times the cash on hand

CONCORD, NC – Today, Gail Young released her first fundraising totals for the 2020 cycle, reporting as of the June 30th deadline having raised more than four times what her Republican opponent Rep. Larry Pittman raised, with a cash on hand advantage of nearly $13,000.

76% of Young’s donors are from Cabarrus or Rowan counties; 98% are from North Carolina. Young is reporting 125 individual donors with an average contribution of $104.

Young said her early fundraising advantage is a sign of the campaign’s momentum heading into the 2020 election filing period, which opens December 2. She stated, “I am humbled to have such strong support from residents across House District 83 and our great state.  Our strength is reflective of not only the hard work of our grassroots campaign but also of the enthusiasm we are seeing on the ground for real change in Raleigh ”

She continued, “Voters across the political spectrum want the same things: a strong education system, affordable healthcare, and fair elections where they choose their representative, not the other way around. 2020 is our time to send a message to Raleigh.  As someone who will be beholden to the people of our district - not leadership or PACs, I am honored to have such tremendous early support to carry our positive message forward throughout this race.”

Gail Young is a leadership development consultant, who retired from Mecklenburg County in 2004 with over 26 years’ experience in local government.  Young ran in 2018 against incumbent Rep. Larry Pittman, garnering 47.22% of the vote and is an announced candidate in House District 83 for the 2020 cycle. Her platform includes, nonpartisan redistricting reform, strengthening public education, and reducing health care expenses in our state.
